Get creative (and messy!) making a willow lantern. Whether you‘re planning to join a lantern parade, or make a unique decoration for your home, this kit will guide you through making a willow and tissue paper lantern.
The traditional craft of lantern making uses willow withies (long, flexible sticks) and tissue paper to make the structure of the lantern. In the past they would be lit with candles however this kit has the safer, but just as pretty, option of micro fairy lights.
The last three photos show what the lantern will look like when it is made and lit up.
The kit for making one star contains...
- 30 x 50cm buff willow sticks
- 4 large sheets of wet strength tissue paper
- micro fairy lights, with replaceable battery
- PVA glue
- roll of kraft paper tape
- blu tack
- step-by-step instruction leaflet with photos
If you choose the two star kit, you will have extra willow, tissue paper and lights for making the second star.
You will also need...
- Somewhere to soak the willow sticks (large sink/tray/bowl)
- An old towel/cloth
- Scissors
- Secateurs
-Container/bowl for mixing glue
- Water
- Brush/sponge for glue (optional)
Due to the use of secateurs, scissors and glue this craft kit is not suitable for younger children, older children will need an adult to do the cutting with secateurs and to be supervised.
Once you have made your lantern it can be carefully decorated with pens, paints or coloured tissue (not included).
If you need any extra lantern making supplies, or have any other questions, please get in touch.
